Proving Technological Prowess

SK Telecom and KT have proved their technological prowess by picking up prizes at global ICT awards.

SK Telecom announced on June 13 that the company was honored as the "Best Network Operator" at the Tech XLR8 2018 Global Awards in London, the UK on June 12 (local time). The Tech XLR8 Awards is held by Infomation Telecom & Media, a global ICT research institute and awarded prizes to about twenty technologies in seven categories this year.

SK Telecom was given the prize for developing the artificial intelligence (AI)-based network management system "Tango" and the virtualization equipment and software integrated management platform "T-MANO." SK Telecom also nabbed a prize in the "Best IoT Solution" category for its multi IoT network which is an upgrade of hybrid IoT networks.

KT also bagged prizes in three categories -- the Best 5G Core Network Technology, the Best IoT Vendor, and the Blockchain Innovation of the Year. KT could win these prizes as KT successfully offered a 5G pilot service at the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympic Games by realizing the world's first core 5G network among others. KT has won prizes in this event for four consecutive years since 2015. In addition, KT was recognized for the commercialization of the GiGA IoT Electronic Bulletin Board and the application of "Data Chain," a blockchain technology specialized in document storage, to its services.
