NIS Investigating the Case

The National Intelligence Service is questioning a Samsung Electronics employee who is suspected of attempting to leak the company's confidential information.

The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has launched an investigation into a technology leak attempt by a Samsung Electronics employee.

The company has recently detected an attempt by its employee to leak confidential documents regarding its foundry technology.

The employee, who works for the Foundry Business Department of the DS Division, is suspected of accessing, viewing and filming the company’s confidential information, including a number of semiconductor-related electronic documents, while working from home.

The company questioned the employee after detecting his access to confidential information. It is not known whether the employee leaked the information he accessed.

Samsung Electronics detected the employee’s access to confidential data through its Electronic Documents Management System (EDM), and reported it to the National Intelligence Service (NIS) immediately on March 22 in compliance with the Industrial Protection Technology Act. The NIS shared Samsung's report with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) and is conducting an investigation to find out the details of the case.
