Growth Falls Back to 100,000 Range After One Month
The number of employed persons in October increased by 193,000 compared to last year, and the growth returned to the 100,000 range after one month.
According to the “October Employment Trends” report released by the Ministry of Data and Statistics on Nov. 12, the number of employed persons last month stood at 29.04 million, up 193,000 from a year earlier. The average increase in employment from January to October this year was also 193,000, showing that October’s gain was roughly at the yearly average level.
In September, the number of employed persons had jumped by 312,000, marking the largest increase in 19 months, but the figure dropped back to the 100,000 range just one month later. This year, the increase in the number of employed persons has remained in the 100,000 range, except for May with 245,000 and September with 312,000.
By age group, the number of employed persons decreased in all age groups except those in their 30s with 80,000 and those in their 60s with 334,000. The number of employed persons among young people aged 15 to 29 decreased by 163,000.
