The National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) announced on May 23 that it will host the 279th NAEK Forum on the theme “Quantum Computing: From Laboratory to Market” on May 26 at L Tower in Seocho-gu, Seoul.

Through this forum, NAEK plans to examine the current state of quantum computing, a technology gaining attention as the next generation, diagnose its potential for industrialization, and engage in in-depth discussions on strategies for ecosystem creation. Chung Hee-jung, director of Quantum Computing at Pasqal, a French quantum computing company, and Han Sang-wook, president of the Korean Society of Quantum Information Science, will deliver keynote speeches.

Chung is expected to introduce quantum computer chip (QPU) technology, various algorithm application cases, and industrial application models under the theme “Neutral Atom-based Quantum Computing Technology and Industrialization Prospects.” She will also share the possibility of implementing quantum-centric supercomputing through collaboration with other companies. President Han will introduce domestic and international quantum computing technology development status and explain its potential for industrial use.

Kim Yong-sung, vice president of Samsung Electronics SAIT, Kim Tae-hyun, professor at Seoul National University, and Kim Seong-su, director general of basic and original research policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, will participate in the panel discussion. They are expected to share diverse perspectives and engage in in-depth discussions on topics such as domestic technology levels, global cooperation, professional human resource development, and commercialization plans.

Yoon Je-yong, NAEK Forum Committee chairman, said, “Quantum computing is now at a crucial turning point, moving beyond the laboratory into the industrial ecosystem,” adding, “I hope this forum will serve as a platform to diagnose domestic technology levels and establish practical strategies for creating a quantum industry ecosystem.”
