Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC), through their joint venture operation company in the UAE, Nawah Energy, announced that Unit 4 of the UAE Barakah Nuclear Power Plant successfully connected to the UAE transmission network on March 23.

The connection to the transmission network signifies the first supply of carbon-free electricity produced by a nuclear power plant to homes and industrial sites through transmission lines, marking a significant step in providing clean energy directly from the plant.

After reaching its first criticality on March 1, Unit 4 of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant succeeded in connecting to the transmission network system after about three weeks. It is scheduled to complete subsequent tests such as output increase tests within this year and then start commercial operations.

The Barakah Nuclear Power Plant significantly contributes to the stabilization of electricity and energy supply within the UAE. With all four units operational, it will provide stable and reliable clean electricity, covering 25% of the UAE’s total electricity demand.

Kim Dong-cheol, president of KEPCO, stated, “With the commercial operation of Unit 4, we are one step closer to the successful completion of the UAE nuclear project. Team Korea will unite until the very end and put forth our best efforts.”
