Moon Hyuk-soo, the CEO of LG Innotek, announced on March 21 that the company is planning to increase its current automotive electronics (electronic systems) sales from 2 trillion won to 5 trillion won within the next five years.

After being appointed as an inside director at the regular general meeting held at the company’s headquarters in the Magok neighborhood of Gangseo district of Seoul, Moon met with reporters and stated, “The order backlog for automotive cameras in the Optics Solution Business Unit is 13 trillion won.” He emphasized, “The experience of growing the optics solution business with global Big Tech customers to become the world’s number one in the Optics Solution Business Unit is the root of LG Innotek’s ‘No. 1 DNA.’ Based on this, we will also grow the semiconductor substrate and electronic systems component business to be number one.” Moon also mentioned that discussions are underway regarding cooperation in electronic systems with Mercedes-Benz.

In response to a question about pursuing the semiconductor glass substrate business, Moon said, “Our main customer for semiconductor substrates is a major semiconductor company in the United States, which has shown great interest in glass substrates. Naturally, we are preparing for it.”

Semiconductor substrates have traditionally been made of plastic, but with the increasing complexity of semiconductor circuits, glass substrates, which offer better performance and lower power consumption than plastic, are gaining attention.
