KT is currently developing five major 5G network solutions aimed at offering perfect 5G services that can be used by way of mobile devices on nationwide networks. The five major 5G network solutions are a 5G slot integrated structure, a 5G-LTE interworking structure, an intelligent multi-beam tracking solution, an in-building solution and an artificial intelligence-based network optimization solution.
KT says that FWA 5G by Verizon cannot regarded as true 5G commercialization. "We can say that 5G is commercialized only when coverage is nationwide, various types of 5G smartphones are supplied, and a wide array of 5G services are provided," Oh said. “KT completed mobility tests at the Gangneung and Pyeongchang Sliding Centers among others and realized perfect 5G during the PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games. Since FWA 5G is a service that can be realized with existing Giga Internet technology, KT will not commercialize 5G in the form of FWA 5G." Oh showed strong confidence in mobility technology.
Verizon is planning to offer commercial FWA 5G services in the second half of this year. However, controversy is brewing over whether or not FWA 5G can be called true 5G because FWA 5G does not honor an international standard set by the 3GPP, an organization for mobile communication standardization and is not a mobile type.
