Representatives from the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) and Yonsei University’s K-NIBRT initiative discussed collaborative strategies with a delegation from Ireland’s Department of Business, Enterprise, and Employment in Songdo International City.

The Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) and Yonsei University's K-NIBRT Business Team revealed that they had deliberated on cooperative methods to bolster their global partnership with a visiting envoy from Ireland’s Department of Business, Enterprise, and Employment in the Yonsei International Campus at Songdo International City on Nov. 1.

Key participants in the meeting included Chief of IFEZ Kim Jin-yong, Director of K-NIBRT Lee Jin-woo (also the Vice President of Yonsei International Campus), and a delegation from Ireland led by Minister Simon Coveney of the Department of Business, Enterprise, and Employment, celebrating the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Ireland.

The attendees shared the goals and strategies of K-NIBRT, an institution aimed at nurturing future talent to lead the pharmaceutical and bio industries. They agreed to enhance inter-institutional collaboration for the successful establishment of the NIBRT system.

Chief Kim Jin-yong stated, “I hope that outstanding talent from K-NIBRT, a core facility for not just bio-health professional training but also next-generation bio-process research, will lead the bio-health industry innovation in Incheon and South Korea.” He also expressed hope that the visit by the Irish delegation would foster broader exchanges between Ireland and Korea in startup development, economics, culture, and other sectors.

K-NIBRT, located at the Yonsei International Campus (Songdo), is a national project initiated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the city of Incheon, and Yonsei University. It is aimed at training bioprocessing professionals and adopts Ireland’s National Institute for Bioprocessing Research & Training (NIBRT) education system, tailored to the circumstances of South Korea.
