To Promote Busan's Bid to Host World Expo 2030

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong

Samsung Electronics vice chairman Lee Jae-yong will go on a business trip to Europe, including the United Kingdom, from Sept. 9 to 12 and then visit the United States and Central and South America including Panama from Sept. 18 to 20.

During a business trip to Europe in June, Lee visited the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Hungary but did not visit the U.K.

The United Kingdom is home to Samsung Electronics’ European headquarters, and there is an AI research center in Cambridge and a European design research institute in London. Lee is expected to meet Samsung employees in the U.K. and discuss mid-to-long term business strategies with officials at the European headquarters and research institutes.

Lee is also expected to promote Busan’s bid to host World Expo 2030 in Europe, including the United Kingdom. Prime Minister Han Deok-soo said on Aug. 30 that Lee will go on a business trip to Europe near the Chuseok holidays to drup up support for Busan’s World Expo bid.

Some experts speculate that Lee may take steps to acquire ARM, a British semiconductor design company that has the core technology for designing AP chips for mobile phones.
