New K5

On March 26, Kia Motors unveiled an exterior image of the latest version of its K5 car.

It is the North American version, which will be showcased at a motor show in New York next month. The local version of new K5 will be revealed at the Seoul Motor Show on April 2.

The second-generation K5 comes five years after the brand debuted in 2010. Based on the sporty design of the existing model, the latest version boasts a simple but sophisticated surface, along with added volume, for a more dynamic look.

The new K5 has sleek radiator grilles and chrome-lined headlamps. Also, the company used elaborate hot stamping methods in the radiator grille of the mid-sized sedan, giving it a “luxurious and powerful” front impression.

Moreover, it features air intake holes and air curtains on the front bumpers, and emphasized its horizontal design lines with chrome, improving aerodynamics and dynamic impression.

The K5 is one of Kia’s most popular models, with 85,646 units having been sold in 2010, the first year of its launch. After 2012, the model steadily sold more than 300,000 units all over the world, and a total of 1.3 million units had been sold until 2014. From 2012, the K5 has become Kia Motors’ best selling model in the U.S. market for 3 consecutive years. In 2014, 159,020 units were sold in the U.S.
