A Further Decline Forecast

Samsung Electronics' market capitalization dropped from 469 trillion won to 340 trillion won in the first half of this year.

Korea CXO Institute said on July 13 that the market capitalization of Samsung Electronics dropped from 469 trillion won to 340 trillion won in the first half of this year.

In that period, the total shareholding of the National Pension Service of South Korea fell 19.8 percent to 121.8095 trillion won and its Samsung Electronics shareholding dropped from 40.47 trillion won to slightly over 30.34 trillion won.

According to industry sources, the market cap of Samsung Electronics may continue to decrease with the global semiconductor sector heading for a recession. Taiwanese semiconductor companies’ sales are falling these days, too.

“Last month, the monthly sales of the top 10 Taiwanese semiconductor suppliers were NT$300 billion, down 5 percent from the previous month,” said market research firm IC Insights, adding, “This phenomenon of the Taiwanese companies including TSMC, MediaTek and Novatek shows that the global semiconductor market is entering a recession.”
