German statistics research company Statista reported that Korea has the fastest Internet speed in the world as of the third quarter last year.

The average Internet speed of South Korea is 25.3Mbps, 5.6 times faster than the world average 4.5Mbps.

South Korea was followed by Hong Kong, Japan, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands, Ireland, Latvia, the Czech Republic, and Singapore.

The Internet population, including current mobile users in Korea, was 45.314248 million as of last July, ranking 12th. This means that 90.6 percent of the total population is using the Internet, considering a Korean population of 50 million.

China had the largest Internet-using population with 641.60107 million last year following 2013.

China was followed by the U.S. (279.834232 million), India (243.98922 million), Japan (192.52912 million), and Brazil (178.22831 million), which were included in the top five. Russian, German, Nigerian, English, French, and Mexican Internet populations were larger than that of Korea.

As of the end of last year, Google’s share of the search engine market was overwhelmingly high with 67.53 percent, followed by Baidu (18.38 percent), Bing (6.63 percent), and Yahoo (6.17 percent). Baidu ranked high in the list even when supporting only the Chinese language.
