Establishes Korea's Own LNG Fuel Tank Ecosystem

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has used POSCO's high manganese steel for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel tank for the first time in the world.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) announced on June 16 that it has applied high manganese steel, developed by POSCO after 10 years of research, to a liquefied natural gas (LNG) fuel tank for the first time in the world.

The two companies will build Korea’s unique LNG fuel tank ecosystem centered on high manganese steel.

If POSCO secures price competitiveness of its high-manganese steel by establishing a mass production system, Korean shipbuilders will be able to develop their own LNG cargo hold technology, which will in turn boost the competitiveness of the Korean shipbuilding industry significantly.
