As water purifiers, air purifiers, and bidets will be connected to the Internet in the future, they will be able to automatically clean the home. They will even be able to be controlled from outside the home. On Mar. 2 (local time), KT and Coway announced an agreement to jointly launch a smart home care business based on the Internet of Things (IoT) at the ongoing Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015 in Barcelona, Spain.

According to the agreement, they will cooperate to develop an IoT services platform for Coway’s smart air care business, search for business models of converged home IoT services, and seek joint business opportunities in the market.

The two companies said that they will commercialize a smart air care service, which is the first project of the smart home care business, within the year. They will also work further together to devise new smart home care services that connect Coway's home appliances such as air cleaners and water purifiers with the IoT, and jointly seize business opportunities in the market in the future.

On the same day, Coway demonstrated the world’s first indoor environment consulting service at KT’s booth at the MWC 2015. The service is dubbed Smart Air Care and KT connected its IoT network, platform, and big data analysis technologies to Coway's smart air cleaners.

Smart Air Care is a service developed by both companies through cooperation in the second half of last year, and about 1,100 households are using the service on trial that started in January. Sensors attached inside a house collect indoor air condition information for 24 hours and transmit it to the IoT platform. The platform analyzes all the data and devises a customized indoor environment for each house.
