Former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert

U.S. President Joe Biden is scheduled to visit Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor plant in Pyeongtaek on May 20, accompanied by former U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Mark Lippert, who has been the vice president of Samsung Electronics America in charge of public relations since March this year.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol is expected to accompany them so that the U.S.-South Korea alliance in the industry can be strengthened. The U.S. president is scheduled to stay in South Korea on May 20 to 22, his first destination during the state visit is Pyeongtaek, home to the world’s largest semiconductor plant, and this is to further enhance the economic security of the United States and South Korea. In the same context, the president of South Korea is supposed to remotely join the IPEF meeting in Japan on May 24.

The plant in Pyeongtaek was built in 2015 and its total area is 2.89 million square meters, equivalent to 400 soccer fields. The former ambassador is expected to act as a contact point between the two presidents there. He worked as the ambassador from 2014 to January 2017 before joining Boeing and YouTube Asia Pacific.
