Causality Statistically Significant

COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer

The National Academy of Medicine of Korea announced on May 12 that there is a causality between the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines and acute pericarditis.

The academy conducted self-controlled case series analysis for a post-inoculation period of six weeks. “When it comes to initial inoculation with the Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen vaccines, the incidences are 6.87, 5.22, 0.29 and 0.25 times, respectively,” it said, adding, “As for second with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, those are 6.5 and 1.77, which are statistically significant figures.”

In South Korea, a total of 205 cases were confirmed as post-COVID-19-vaccination pericarditis until May 5. In addition, more than 60,000 persons reported post-vaccination chest pain and discomfort until that day.

“Most of those complaining of chest pain after vaccination are not actually pericarditic as indicated by the figures,” the academy said, adding, “Nonetheless, according to our analysis, it can be said that there is a statistically significant causality between the mRNA vaccination and an increase in the frequency of pericarditis.”
