30% of iPhone 13 Parts from Korea

The ratio of components supplied by South Korean manufacturers has risen from 27 percent to 30 percent from iPhone 12 to iPhone 13. The latest iPhone incorporates chips from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, camera lenses and multilayer ceramic capacitors from Samsung Electro-Mechanics, camera modules from LG Innotek and OLED panels from Samsung Display and LG Display.

In addition, Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to supply most of the OLED panels for use in the iPhone 14 scheduled to be launched in the second half of this year. The ratio is likely to continue to increase as Chinese supply chains are failing and U.S.-China relations are worsening.

Especially, LG Group subsidiaries have worked very closely with Apple since LG Electronics withdrew from the smartphone market. Apple products have been available at offline LG Electronics stores since August last year. According to industry sources, LG Magna e-Powertrain is expected to partner with Apple once the latter enters the automotive industry.

In the first quarter of this year, LG Innotek’ sales increased to 3.9517 trillion won, its largest Q1 sales ever. This was led by an increase in supply to Apple. At present, business with Apple accounts for more than 70 percent of LG Innotek’ sales. The ratio was 37 percent in 2016 but reached 75 percent in 2021.
