Biosimilars and COVID-19 Vaccines Lead Growth

Exports from the domestic biotech and healthcare sectors totaled US$1.26 billion in April.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on May 2 that exports from the domestic biotech and healthcare sectors totaled US$1.26 billion last month, the highest April figure and up 14.2 percent from a year ago.

Last month, exports from the sectors increased year on year for the fifth consecutive month, led by biosimilar and COVID-19 vaccine exports. The longest record is six months in the textile, consumer electronics and rechargeable battery sectors.

Exports from the two sectors to Europe decreased 7.4 percent year on year to US$230 million last month. On the other hand, those to the ASEAN region and the United States increased 13.4 percent and 89.8 percent to US$80 million and US$160 million, respectively.
