The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said on April 14 that 54,390 vehicles of 13 brands manufactured or imported by seven companies will be recalled for defects.

The seven automakers are Ford Sales Service Korea, Hyundai Motor Co., Honda Korea, Tesla Korea, Jaguar Land Rover Korea, Volkswagen Group Korea, and BMW Korea. 

The recalled cars include 17,682 units of Hyundai Motor's NEXO Fuel Cell. The hydrogen-powered SUV is recalled because its warning lights do not turn on when hydrogen gas leaks due to the deterioration of its hydrogen detection sensors.

Ford Sales Service Korea will recall 19,733 units of Explorer SUV as rear suspension tow links were damaged due to a lack of durability.

Electric car windows show a safety problem in 15,323 units of the five car models imported and sold by Honda Korea, including the Accord Hybrid. The problem is that the windows were manipulated even after turning off the engines and opening the car doors. It was blamed on a design defect in the main switch for the electric windows.

Safety engineers found a vehicle control system software error occurred to 1290 units of Tesla’s Model S, violating safety standards. The error turns on reversing light even when the Model S runs forward, kindling a safety issue. The Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport plans to make Tesla voluntarily carry out a recall of them and then impose a penalty surcharge on the carmker in consideration of the correction rate in the future.

A low-pressure fuel hose was incorrectly placed, causing friction with surrounding parts and damaging a fuel hose with regard to 159 units of the Discovery SD4 imported and sold by Jaguar Land Rover Korea. This risks a fire if fuel leaks.

Eighty units of the Golf 8 2.0 GTI imported and sold by Volkswagen Group Korea have incorrectly fixed engine covers so the covers could melt and cause a fire when they come in contact with heat from the engines.

BMW Korea will recall 123 units of three two-wheeled models including the K 1600 GT imported and sold by BMW Korea because some parts in their rear suspensions may be damaged due to lack of durability, which may cause accidents.
