Credited with Developing World’s First 3D Bulk FinFET

Science and ICT Minister nominee Lee Jong-ho

Lee Jong-ho, head of the Inter-University Semiconductor Research Center of Seoul National University, has been nominated as the new minister of science and ICT.

“The president-elect’s campaign pledges include a new private-public council on science and technology and, in the council, the role of the private sector will be expanded in scientific, technological and digital policy planning,” he said on April 10.

He received his Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from Seoul National University. Then, he lectured at Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, MIT Microsystems Technology Laboratories and Kyungpook National University. He returned to his alma mater in 2009 and has been the head of the research center since 2018.

He has developed various semiconductor technologies in collaboration with KAIST and many more. Especially, the nominee developed the world’s first 3D bulk FinFET to open up a new chapter of semiconductor device technology.
