Green Cars Account for 23.5% of Domestic Auto Sales

One out of five Hyundai and Kia cars sold in Korea 2022 was a green car. This marked the first time that eco-friendly cars accounted for more than 20 percent of domestic car sales.

Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia sold a total of 64,417 hybrid and electric vehicles from January to March 2022, which accounted for 23.5 percent of the total domestic car sales (273,762 units). This was an increase of 9.4 percentage points from 14.1 percent in the first quarter of 2021 (44,574 units).

In 2021, the share of hybrid and electric vehicles was 18.2 percent. Hyundai and Kia sold 229,107 eco-friendly cars in 2021, up 41.8 percent from the previous year.

In particular, Hyundai and Kia sold 22,768 electric vehicles in the first quarter of 2022, about 2.6 times more than the 8,925 units in the same period of 2021.
