Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) announced on April 7 that it has obtained basic approval for a 70,000㎥ class liquefied carbon dioxide carrier from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

The super-large liquefied carbon dioxide carrier has received a lot of market attention since its development stage.

The vessel is 250 meters long and 44 meters wide, and the largest among liquefied carbon dioxide carriers that have obtained classification so far. It is designed to respond to various environmental regulations, as it has enough space for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) propulsion engine and a carbon dioxide capture and storage device.

DSME is also developing new materials for liquefied carbon dioxide storage tanks and a ship design that can boost the operating efficiency of shipowners by increasing tank capacities.
