An Ordinary Procedure That Follows a Recall

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has initiated an investigation on vehicles equipped with LG Energy Solution batteries.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) initiated an investigation on April 5 on 138,000 vehicles equipped with LG Energy Solution batteries.

According to the NHTSA, GM, Mercedes-Benz, Stellantis and Hyundai Motor Co. have conducted recalls since 2020 for the risk of fire attributable to LG Energy Solution batteries. It also said that the other automakers using LG Energy Solution batteries also need to conduct recalls if necessary.

LG Energy Solution said on April 6 that the investigation is an ordinary procedure that follows a recall. “The official procedures of the NHTSA are already completed with regard to Chevrolet Bolt, Hyundai Kona and Hyundai Ioniq and we already reached agreements with our clients,” it said, adding, “It is unlikely that there will be additional issues.”
