On Feb. 10, Samsung held a groundbreaking ceremony for the “Daegu-Samsung Creative Economy Complex” on the old Cheil Industries site on the north side of Daegu Metropolitan City.

Samsung will build the Daegu Creative Economy Complex on a 90,199 m2 site of with a total floor area of 43,040 m2. The company is planning to invest nearly 90 billion won (US$82.43 million) and complete the construction of the complex by December next year. 

The site is where Cheil Industries Inc. was built in 1954. After 60 years, it will now be recreated as a multi-use creative economy complex that integrates technology and art. 

The new complex will be divided into 4 regions: the Creative Economy Zone, the Samsung Zone, the Atelier Zone, and the Community Zone.  

Also, it will be the multi-use complex composed of facilities, such as a center to support starting venture companies, a center to communicate with the community and a rest area for citizens. 

Meanwhile, nearly 500 people attended the ceremony, including Daegu Mayor Kwon Young-jin; Kwon Eun-hee, representative of the North Daegu-A constituency; Lee Suk-joon, vice minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning; Lee Sang-hoon, head of the Corporate Management Support Team; and local residents.
