A Bridge That Connects Asia and Europe

The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge

The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge, the world's longest suspension bridge in Turkey built by Korea's DL E&C and SK ecoplant, opened on March 18 (local time).

Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, Turkish President Erdoğan, employees of DL E&C and SK ecoplant attended the opening ceremony of the bridge, a milestone in bilateral cooperation between Korea and Turkey.

The bridge connects Europe and Asia. Ground was broken in April 2018 and construction work was performed for a total of 48 months. Its total length is 3,563 meters. It is a suspension bridge with the longest span in the world. The span was designed to be 2,023 meters to commemorate the year of 2023, the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Turkish Republic.

Previously, the world’s longest suspension bridge was the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge in Japan, with a 1,991-meter-long span.

This bridge connects Lapseki in the Asian side of Turkey's Çanakkale province and Gelivolu in the European side, which are divided by the Dardanelles Strait. As the only link between Europe and Asia in southern Turkey, the bridge is expected to become a global landmark as well as a tourist attraction.
