'A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry'

"A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry," written by Professor Chang Il-moo

Seoul National University honorary professor Chang Il-moo, who was the head of the Korea Ginseng Corp. R&D Center, won the 2021 James A. Duke award from the American Botanical Council with his book titled "A History of the Korean Ginseng Industry."

The American Botanical Council is a science and research organization covering the fields of natural medicines, health foods, spices and cosmetics. It gives prizes every year to scientists with the greatest contribution. The latest awards ceremony took place at Natural Products Expo West 2022 in Anaheim.

The corporation published the Korean version of the book in 2018 and some up-to-date content has been added to the English version. In this book, the author looks into the process of Goryeo ginseng industrialization from a historical point of view.

According to the book, the world’s first technique for artificial ginseng cultivation was invented in the Joseon era and the invention of red ginseng enabling long-term ginseng storage led to ginseng industrialization.
