ISOFAR 2015 Goesan

The 2015 Goesan International Organic & Industry Fair will be co-hosted by 3 organizations: Chungcheongbuk-do, or North Chungcheong Province, which set its 2020 policy objective to become recognized as an organic-specialized province; Goesan-gun, or Goesan County, which declared itself as organic farming country; and the International Society of Organic Agriculture Research (ISOFAR).

To construct the brand image of “Organic Korea” becoming a leader in the global organic farming industry, the Expo will take place in the Organic Expo Farm in Geosan Town (Goesan-eup), Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do for 24 days, from Sept. 18 to Oct. 11, 2015, with the theme of “Organic Life – Science Meets the Public.”

The event has a budget of 15.5 billion won or US$14.15 million, of which the central government contributed 4.6 billion won or US$4.2 million, the province 7.5 billion won or US$7.12 million, and private sponsorships added of 3.1 billion won or US$2.83 million. So there will be several well-organized programs in the event, including organic thematic exhibitions, outdoor exhibitions, a special interactive exhibition displaying medical care and beauty technology using organic farming, and cultural performances.

Its will have space to accommodate 660,000 visitors, and hopes that at least 40,000 of them will be from other countries.

Chungcheongbuk-do received approval to hold the international event from the government in December 2013, and opened the executive offices for the Expo preparation in January 2014. Currently, there are 51 employees working in 2 head offices (8 divisions) under the secretary general.

Until now, they have completed the road-map for the overall event, made contracts with agencies to manage the event, opened the website and designed the EI signatures, including its logo and symbol mark. Also, they held an international academic event to boost the development of the organic farming industry, an advisory conference inviting officials of ISOFAR and an inaugural meeting of the organizing committee.

In the future, they will come up with detailed action plans for the Expo, appoint honorary ambassadors, produce publicity images and clips, and promote promotions to utilize the facilities. Moreover, they will run public information halls during the event, including exhibitions, and construct the foundation of 10 thematic exhibition halls and 7 outdoor exhibitions.

Chungcheongbuk-do and the Goesan-gun are expecting to transform the province into a specialized high-value-added organic farming industry area by changing its agriculture into organic methods through the successful hosting of the event. Also, they are planning to realize an Organic Creative Economy through the event, converging biotech, cosmetics, and beauty industries, which are already the mainstays of the province's economy.
