Accounts for 88% of Global Market

Samsung Electronics accounts for 88 percent of the global foldable smartphone market.

Market research firm DSCC said on Feb. 22 that Samsung Electronics’ share in the global foldable smartphone market rose from 86 percent to 88 percent last year and this was led by Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3.

“Each of foldable panel shipments, foldable phone output and foldable phone shipments is expected to more than double this year,” it said, adding, "Samsung Electronics is aiming to sell at least 14 million foldable phones by releasing Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4.”

According to DSCC, Samsung Display supplied 10 million foldable phone panels in 2021, up 207 percent from a year ago, and this year’s figure is estimated at 19 million.

Market research firm Canalys said that the global foldable phone shipments would increase from 8.9 million to 31.85 million units from 2021 to 2024. “Samsung Electronics has led the growth of the foldable smartphone market,” it said, adding, “Foldable display and hinge suppliers are increasing and manufacturers are lowering prices by innovative engineering and design.”
