Developing Apps for TV

LG Electronics is developing apps for its smart TV.

LG Electronics is expanding its original TV content by developing apps based on its smart TV operating system (OS). For example, in the 1M HomeDance app on LG smart TVs, dancers from the 1MILLION Dance Studio teach how to dance. Highbrow provides more than 10,000 pieces of educational content, ranging from language and math to music and art. LG Electronics provided more than 2,000 apps on its smart TVs last year, up 30 percent from 2019.

According to the company, the way people use TV is changing rapidly, that is, from simple watching to learning, leisure, and so on. It recently said that the frequency of use of LG TV apps as compared with 2019 increased by 15 percent or so worldwide last year and the rate of increase was higher in South Korea.

According to it, this was led by remote education and entertainment demands. In this regard, it increased its remote education and entertainment apps by 50 percent last year. One of the examples is LIVENow for concert streaming.

The apps also include region-specific content, such as the Independa app in the United States for telemedicine and remote caregiving and Peloton for home workout targeting North American and European users. The latest additions are Drops Gallery for NFT artwork appreciation and cloud game services.
