China Daily Reports

CATL is reportedly considering building an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in the United States.

The China Daily reported that CATL is considering building an electric vehicle (EV) battery plant in the United States, and this has to do with U.S. import restrictions and rumors about its relationship with Tesla.

At present, Germany is the only region where CATL’s overseas plant is located. According to the China Daily, CATL chairman Zeng Yuqun already discussed the matter with multiple U.S. clients including automakers and potential investors including Temasek Holdings.

CATL’s business conditions are not that favorable these days. It has been reported that talks between CATL and Tesla failed lately, although CATL is denying the report.

The annual production capacity of EV battery plants in the United States is scheduled to increase by more than 400 GWh from this year to 2026. South Korean EV battery manufacturers and their local joint ventures account for 70 percent of the increase.
