KT's AI voice recognition service installed in a Mercedes-Benz S-Class vehicle

KT's AI-based connected car solution will be used for Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

KT announced on Feb. 17 that it has launched an AI voice recognition service for Mercedes-Benz models such as the S-Class and the EQA in cooperation with Cerence, an AI voice recognition solution company for vehicles in the United States.

KT's AI voice recognition connected car solutions provide information to drivers safely and intuitively during driving. Its representative services are location information and online content searches.

For example, if a driver says, “Hi Benz, tell me the best route to Seoul City Hall,” KT’s location search service provides location information on Seoul City Hall. It is also possible to search online content such as the Korean won-U.S. dollar exchange rate.

Apart from information such as exchange rates, dates and time, Wikipedia and unit conversions and social chats, KT plans to continue to expand its services in the future so that users can enjoy more diverse functions.

KT has been undertaking research and development (R&D) jointly with Cerence since 2018 to introduce AI voice recognition connected car solutions tailored to the domestic market. Cerence is a global company that provides voice recognition solutions to global vehicle producers, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi and Hyundai Motor.

The AI voice recognition service for Mercedes-Benz is the first outcome of the synergy between KT’s AI voice recognition connected car solutions and Cerence's cloud platform. KT is planning to expand target models and services through continuous cooperation with Cerence.
