BMW Sells the Largest Number of Cars

The Korea Automobile Importers and Distributors Association (KAIDA) announced on Feb. 7 that the number of newly registered imported cars stood at 17,361 in January, a drop of 27.4 percent on month and 22.2 percent on year.

By brand, the figure broke down into 5,550 for BMW, 3,405 for Mercedes-Benz, 1,269 for Audi, 1,213 for Volkswagen, and 1,004 for Volvo.

They were followed by 819 for Mini, 677 for Porsche, 605 for Ford, 513 for Lexus, 498 for Jeep, 455 for Chevrolet, 304 for Toyota, 295 for Honda, 276 for Land Rover, 156 for Lincoln, 110 for Maserati, 37 for Cadillac, 35 for Bentley, 23 for Rolls-Royce, 20 for Polestar, 19 for Citroen, 16 for Lamborghini, 15 for Jaguar and 7 for DS.

By country, European brands accounted for 14,491 units (83.5 percent), U.S. brands 1,758 units (10.1 percent), and Japanese brands 1,112 units (6.4 percent). By fuel type, there were 9,600 (55.3 percent) gasoline cars, 3,266 (18.8 percent) hybrids, 3,045 (17.5 percent) diesel cars, 948 (5.5 percent) PHEVs, and 502 (2.9 percent) electric vehicles.

By type of purchase, individual purchases hit 10,843 units, accounting for 62.5 percent, while 6,518 units (37.5 percent) were corporate purchases.

The top three best-selling cars in January were the Mercedes-Benz E 250 (1,316 units), the BMW 520 (913 units), and the Mercedes-Benz E 220 d 4MATIC (543 units).
