The South Korean government has increased its official development assistance (ODA) projects for this year to 4.0425 trillion won.

The South Korean government announced on Jan. 27 that its official development assistance (ODA) for this year would total 4.0425 trillion won, up 7.7 percent from a year ago.

“We are planning to focus on international cooperation for a better COVID-19 response and social and economic development in developing countries based on the projects,” it said, adding, “At the same time, more efforts will be made for climate change response and humanitarian aid.”

More than one-third and 18 percent of the assistance are scheduled to go to Asia and Africa, respectively. The assistance is slated to include 13.2 percent in the public health sector and 13.1 percent in the public transportation sector.

The government is planning to utilize technologies ODA recipient countries are capable of accepting. In addition, it is going to provide training when such countries are incapable of accepting such technologies. The government announced that it changed its ODA plans for six countries, including Nepal and Bangladesh, in view of recent political conditions.
