A Tablet with a 14.6-inch Screen

Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy Tab S8 series in February.

Samsung Electronics will unveil the Galaxy Tab S8 series, a premium tablet PC, in February.

The Galaxy Tab S8 series is expected to come out in three models -- Basic, Plus and Ultra -- just like the Galaxy S smartphone series. This is the first time that Samsung Electronics has given model names to its tablet lineup.

The highest model, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, is expected to have the largest screen among Galaxy Tab series models that have been released so far. According to foreign media outlets, the model is loaded with a 14.6-inch OLED display, about 20 percent larger compared to its processor Galaxy Tab S7 Plus.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra is powered by Qualcomm’s latest application processor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Its advanced functions include 12,000mAh large-capacity batteries and 45W high-speed charging.

IT industry experts predict that the Basic model will be loaded with an 11-inch LCD display and the Plus model a 12.4-inch OLED display. The Galaxy Tab S8 series will have 128GB, 256GB or 512 GB storage and 8GB, 12GB or 16GB RAMs.

The prices are 829,000 won for the Basic model and 1,149,000 won for the Plus model. The Ultra model is expected to start at 1,469,000 won.

Whether the Galaxy Tab S8 series will lead to a rebound in Samsung Electronics’ tablet market share remains to be seen. According to market research firm Strategy Analysis (SA), Apple accounted for 38 percent of the tablet PC market in the fourth quarter of 2021. Samsung Electronics marked a 17 percent share.
