The First Video to Reach 10 Billion Views

'Baby Shark Dance' has become the first YouTube video to reach 10 billion views.

The immensely popular Pinkfong 'Baby Shark Dance' has become the first video on YouTube to break through the 10 billion view mark.

The music video was released by Pinkfong Co. in June 2016. In November 2020, it was listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s No. 1 video in terms of YouTube views. It beat Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi’s Despacito.

Since then, its gap with the second ranker widened. The video surpassed 10 billion views at 4 p.m. on Jan. 13. It can be said that based on the number of views alone, the video was watched once by all the population living on Earth. The cumulative playback time is about 43,000 years, which correspond to the period from the Paleolithic Period to the present.

“The rare feat of 10 billion views proves the video's value as popular global intellectual property (IP), which was already demonstrated by such titles as the most popular video on YouTube, 11 platinum certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and fifth place in Netflix’s Today’s Top 10 category,” said an official of The Pinkfong Co.
