Calling for Efforts to Prevent Adverse Effects

The Korea Enterprises Federation has expressed its objection to the passage of a bill for worker directorship in the public sector.

The Korea Enterprises Federation expressed its objection to the passage of a bill for worker directorship in the public sector, claiming that the same bill should not be applied to the private sector.

“Worker directorship is not suitable for domestic economic systems and will hinder corporate decision-making processes,” it said, adding, “The National Assembly passed the new Act on the Management of Public Institutions despite our repeated reconsideration requests and without considering adverse effects.”

It also said that the adverse effects should be prevented by well-organized specific rules and regulations. “In particular, it has to be clarified that a worker director cannot be a union member during his or her term as a director since his or her simultaneous directorship and union membership may result in a conflict of interests,” it said.
