Samsung Electronics vice chairman Han Jong-hee delivered a keynote speech at CES 2022 on Jan. 4. There, he stressed that the ultimate goal of technological innovation has to be sustainable daily living.

“The application of our solar cell remote controllers, which were applied to our QLED products last year, will be expanded this year to cover new consumer electronics products including TVs,” he said, adding, “Then, more than 200 million batteries do not have to be used.”

According to him, Samsung Electronics’ use of recycled plastics in its TV production processes will be increased by 30-fold this year and all mobile and consumer electronics products of the company will be based on recycled materials within three years.

“Samsung alone cannot meet the goal of sustainable daily living and our solar cell remote controller technology will be shared with other companies,” he said, continuing, “At the same time, we will work with Patagonia in order to reduce microplastic emissions and will expand our global partnership for such purposes.”

He also said that Samsung Electronics launched the Home Connectivity Alliance with consumer electronics industry leaders, including GE, Haier and Electrolux. The alliance is to establish IoT standards optimized for home appliances so that consumers across the world can use products of various brands on a single IoT platform with greater ease and convenience.
