Policy measures to prevent a drain on car insurance caused by imported car drivers are put into force this year, while a team dedicated to the investigation of insurance fraud by such drivers will be organized in each local police agency for the same purpose.
“Insurance payments are continuing to increase and matters relating to excessive repair costs for imported cars are getting increasingly serious as the number of imported cars is on the rise,” said the Financial Services Commission, adding, “In order to tackle this problem and completely open auto part price information to the public, the commission has worked with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport since last year and is going to come up with specific action plans this year.”
The FSC continued, “We are well aware that imported cars are associated with various types of fraud and crimes because of the high prices of the parts, as well as the vehicles themselves, and we are planning to work even more closely together with the police and the prosecution this year regarding this point.”
In the meantime, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is striving for a successful introduction of certified replacement parts taking effect from Jan. 8, since the new system holds the key to problems, including excessively expensive auto parts prices, repair delay, exorbitant rents, and insurance fraud. “The monopolistic positions of certain auto parts suppliers have to be broken if these problems are to be solved,” the Ministry remarked, adding, “Once the new system settles down, it will significantly contribute to lowering the nonsensical prices of auto parts of imported cars that have caused the problems above.”
