A Plugless TV

LG Electronics' plugless StandbyMe TV

LG Electronics announced on Dec. 21 that it will launch its plugless StandbyMe TV in major Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Vietnam.

Sales of the battery-powered TV will begin in Hong Kong in December and in Singapore and Vietnam in January next year. In Vietnam, pre-orders have already started through online brand shops.

LG Electronics is updating Apple’s airplay software linked to Apple’s smartphone operating system. The update is expected to be completed within this week. In addition, StandbyMe will offer Kakao Entertainment’s webtoon platform Kakao Webtoon services.

The TV offers a new voice guidance function for the visually impaired. When operating the TV with a remote controller, a user can hear a simple explanation of the operating situation and the selected application. A customer can use a vertical screen mode when linking a PC to the TV using Miracast.

LG StandbyMe TV is loaded with a 27-inch (about 68 cm) display and has a swivel that adjusts left and right sides of the screen to 65 degrees, a device that can tilt the screen up and down 25 degrees and a rotation part that move the screen 90 degrees clockwise and counterclockwise. Its height can extend up to 20 cm.
