The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority announced on Dec. 19 that test facilities to help develop fully autonomous driving have been added to the K-City autonomous driving test site and the second phase of their K-City advancement project has been completed as a result.

The project was launched in 2019 so that the development of Level 4 and 5 autonomous driving can be facilitated at the test site built in 2018.

The newly added facilities have three different purposes. One is to test vehicles under various weather conditions, another is to assume communication failures and the like, and the other is for testing in the presence of pedestrians and bicycles.

The third phase of the project is scheduled to start next year. The third phase will cover actual vehicle movements such as lane change and overtaking.
