Display Companies Show Mixed Reactions

The iPhone 14 Pro

The iPhone 14 Pro is predicted to come in the second half of next year with a punch-hole display. At present, Samsung Display, LG Display and BOE are supplying displays to Apple and the three companies are showing mixed reactions to the prediction.

Samsung Display is currently supplying 100 percent of the OLED panels of the iPhone 13 Pro. In addition, its punch-hole OLED displays have been used in Samsung Electronics smartphones. According to market experts, Samsung Display will be able to maintain its presence based on its experience regarding the new iPhone as well.

Although LG Display has supplied no punch-hole displays, it is said that punch-hole display manufacturing is easy for the company, whose current main focus in relation to Apple as a client is the LTPO TFT technology for iPhone Pro models.

BOE has punch-hole display development and manufacturing track records. However, its OLED technology is inferior to those of the South Korean companies. The Chinese company is also working on LTPO TFT OLED displays at the request of Apple, and yet mass production is likely to start in 2023 at the earliest. This means its display supply to Apple is likely to be limited to non-Pro models for a while.
