Backlash to Reform Measures

Unionized Samsung Electronics employees are calling the company’s new personnel management systems into question. The new systems are to expand the roles of group and team leaders in evaluating the performance of employees.

The Federation of Korean Metal Workers’ Trade Unions held a press conference with them on Dec. 16. “According to the current law, any change in personnel management system requires the consent of at least half of employees and the consent must be obtained without any coercion,” they said, adding, “At present, multiple senior employees at Samsung Electronics are forcing junior employees to give their consent.”

According to them, a large number of senior employees are putting pressure while identifying those who do not give their consent and this is occurring nationwide.

“Samsung Electronics is violating the law, and yet the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office is doing nothing,” they claimed, adding, “This must be corrected right away.”
