Korea Stands out in Telecom Network

South Korea placed first among 24 major countries in the world in terms of 4K video quality.

Ookla conducted tests in 24 countries in the third quarter of this year and announced on speedtest.net that South Korea recorded an average of 80.4 percent when it comes to how long a 4K mobile video maintains the 4K video quality during the entire playback.

South Korea came in first, followed by Switzerland (80.3 percent), Croatia (79.7 percent), Kuwait (77.4 percent), Norway (75.4 percent), Saudi Arabia (73.9 percent), France (72.2 percent) and Bahrain (70.7 percent).

South Korea took the top spot in its test limited to 5G networks, too. Specifically, its duration is 95.9 percent of the total playback duration. Norway took the second place with 94.5 percent, followed by Kuwait (94 percent), South Africa (93.6 percent), Switzerland (92.6 percent), France (91.5 percent) and Bahrain (91 percent).

As for the time gap between video quality adjustment for reflecting network status and device performance and actual playback initiation, Switzerland showed the smallest gap of 1.02 seconds, followed by South Korea (1.07), Norway (1.1), Hong Kong and Croatia (1.17), Portugal (1.24) and Mexico and Kuwait (1.25). In the same test limited to 5G networks, South Africa’s figure is 0.73, followed by Switzerland (0.79), Norway (0.82), Hong Kong (0.86) and South Korea (0.9).

In its tests conducted on high-speed Internet networks, South Korea topped the list in terms of the duration and the lead time alike. Specifically, its duration is 92.2 percent, followed by Switzerland (89.4 percent), Hong Kong (87.6 percent), Norway (87.1 percent) and the United States (86.7 percent). Its lead time is 0.67 seconds and those of Norway, Hong Kong, Switzerland and the United Kingdom are 0.74, 0.75, 0.76 and 0.79, respectively.
