Bills on Alternative Military Service Deferred

the seven BTS members will be enlisted as the National Assembly has deferred the adoption of three Military Service Act amendments.

The National Defense Committee of the National Assembly deferred the adoption of three Military Service Act amendments at its meeting on Nov. 25. The amendments are to allow an alternative military service for well-known popular artists.

This means the seven BTS members will be enlisted. They submitted their enlistment deferral requests to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in July this year, the minister submitted his recommendation to the Military Manpower Administration, and their enlistment was deferred.

Jin, the oldest BTS member born in December 1992, must be enlisted next month, but the Military Manpower Administration put off the deadline until December next year. The Military Service Act was revised in June this year, and the enlistment of popular artists meeting certain requirements can be put off until the age of 30.

The stock price of BTS agency Hybe has fallen since the middle of this month regarding the enlistment issue. Specifically, it fell 10.14 percent from Nov. 17 to 26. According to entertainment industry sources, BTS is currently accounting for 87.7 percent of the agency’s sales.
