Subway WiFi Speed to Increase to 700 Mbps

The WiFi speed in subway trains will be increased from 70 Mbps to 700 Mbps.

The South Korean government held a meeting and finalized 31 deregulation plans on Nov. 25.

This summer, economic organizations and enterprises submitted 83 requests for deregulation in industries. Relevant ministries looked into the requests and adopted the 31 consisting of 10 in the energy and new material sector, seven in ICT convergence, one in unmanned vehicle and 13 in biotech and healthcare.

According to that related to the use of WiFi in subway trains, the maximum output in the 6 GHz frequency band can be 250 mW instead of 25 mW. In addition, 5G as well as LTE will be used for radio wave transmission from base stations to subway trains so that the WiFi speed in the trains can increase from 70 Mbps to 700 Mbps.

The 31 plans constitute the government’s eighth deregulation package related to new industries. As for the preceding seven, the government adopted 338 plans and deregulation was completed in 290.
