Glasslock of Samkwang Glass, the largest kitchen glassware manufacturer in Korea, was chosen as a World-class Goods by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE). It has been chosen for four years in a row, a new record for the air-tight container sector.

In order to be chosen as World-class Goods, the size of the global market for a year should be more than US$50 million, or the amount of annual exports should be over US$5 million. Also, the product’s global market share should be in the top five, with over a five percent share in the global market.

GlassLock is made of heat-resistant, shatter-resistant tempered glass. Thus, it is safe. It is also an eco-friendly product, as it is made of soda lime glass, a recyclable material.

Moreover, it is also free from environmental contaminants, odors, and colors. Released in 2005, GlassLock is a steady seller, selling 7,200 per hour in 84 countries including the U.S., Europe, and China. The company sells more than 150 types and designs.

Glasslock is steadily participating in international fairs including Ambiente Germany and the Chicago Housewares Show.

In particular, Glasslock recently received a 2014 Good Design Award in the U.S., and it won the award for two years in a row for the first time in Korea’s kitchenware industry. Also, Glasslock gained recognition for its modern and practical design, winning prestigious international design awards including the Red Dot Design Award and iF Design Award.

An official from the company said, “Glasslock raised brand awareness overseas and gained recognition for its brand power in the global market, as it was chosen as one of the World-class Goods for four consecutive years. The company will broaden its market overseas through promoting its brand value, stressing health and environmentally-friendly products, improving product quality, and creating specialized functions and design.”
