Standard Chartered Bank Korea has appointed a Korean as its president for the first time.

SC Bank held a board meeting and appointed Park Jong-bok, the incumbent vice president of the retail banking division, as the next president of the bank. SC Financial Group will hold a general meeting of stockholders shortly, appointing Park as the next chief executive of the bank. He will be promoted on Jan. 8 next year.

SC Group acquired Korea First Bank in 2005 and established SC Bank Korea. Since then, its presidents have all been foreigners, including the current president of the bank, Ajay Kanwal.

Park studied economics at Kyunghee University and started his career at Korea First Bank, which was the former name of SC Bank, in 1979. He has served as a manager of the PB division, a director of operations, and a director of the retail channel division.
