Apple Insists on In-app Payment
Google has decided to comply with the new Telecommunications Business Act by not forcing in-app payment in South Korea.
As a result, app developers in South Korea can apply their own payment methods to their Google apps. In addition, Google app users can choose between in-app payment and other payment methods.
Google said that developers’ payment methods and its in-app payment would be displayed in the same size and shape and at the same position. It also said that the fee to be applied to developers’ methods would be lower than the fee applied to in-app payment.
According to Google, the purpose of its new payment policy is to increase the benefits of developers and users at the same time by ensuring their rights to choose. The new policy, which will become effective only in South Korea, is likely to take effect within this year.
In the meantime, Apple said last month that its in-app payment policy is not in violation of the South Korean law. The company is currently maintaining this stance unlike Google.
