To Open a New Channel of Dialogue

U.S. President Joe Biden

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy had a video conference with the U.S. Department of Commerce on Oct. 25. There, they decided to open a new channel of dialogue for cooperation in the semiconductor industry.

In addition, they agreed to expand their existing dialogue for industrial cooperation, which started after the U.S.-South Korea summit in June 2017.

At the conference, the South Korean government re-expressed its concerns over the U.S. demand for supply chain information and data related to the semiconductor industry. The U.S. Department of Commerce recently told major companies in the industry to submit their specific business data by Nov. 8, saying that the demand is to deal with the ongoing global chip shortage.

It is said that South Korean companies subject to the demand, including Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, will submit minimum data next month. The ministry said that it would keep talking with the United States concerning the issue.
