LG CNS Carries out Migration Project

LG CNS has completed the migration of Korean Air's enterprise IT system to public cloud.

LG CNS announced on Oct. 21 that Korean Air’s enterprise IT system is now fully on the AWS Public Cloud. LG CNS, Korean Air and Amazon Web Services signed their contract for the conversion in November 2018 and Korean Air has become the first major airline in the world using a public cloud-based enterprise IT system.

It is relatively more difficult to turn an existing system into a cloud system whereas cloud system establishment from scratch can be done with relative ease. For example, changes in various existing applications for flight control, cargo management, reservation management, and so on have to be kept to a minimum during the conversion.

Korean Air’s IT system included more than 200 applications, most of them were in operation around the clock and, as such, thorough planning was required before the conversion. LG CNS set up various scenarios and conducted a number of rehearsals to complete the conversion without service interruption.

“On the new system, flight demand and weather forecasting, customer services such as reservation and ticketing, and many more will be further improved using machine learning, artificial intelligence, and the like,” the airline explained.
